Currency Margin Calculator

Positive margin = company markup (you get less than MMR)
Negative margin = discount (you get more than MMR)

How to use this tool

Simply choose the currencies relevant to your currency exchange from the dropdown lists. Then enter the rate you have been quoted. This may have been provided on a website form, or possibly over the phone or by email if you're dealing with an FX broker service. Hit 'Calculate Margin', and we'll fetch the real-time mid-market rate for the currency pair, and automatically calculate how far your rate is from that.

About

The cost of sending money online comes from two things: the fee and the rate. Fees are pretty obvious, but rates can be sneaky. How can you tell whether a rate is good or not? That's why I built this simple app. You can enter any exchange rate quoted by a money transfer company or FX broker, and we'll compare it against the live mid-market rate. Our simple calculation will tell you how much 'fat' the company is adding on to the rate; in other words, how big a hidden fee are they including in their exchange rate.
